Spyro at last finds himself pulled to the other side of world of the Dragon Kingdom to free the dragons’ eggs and save his people from an evil Sorceress and her assistant Bianca. Along the way, Spyro and his dragonfly Sparx will find new allies and friends…Spyro must endure!
Spyro Reignited Trilogy is a remastered version of the PlayStation Spyro the Dragon games. The 3D platformer was developed by Toys for Bob and published by Activision. It received releases on the PS4 and Xbox One.
I didn’t have the PlayStation, and both Spyro the Dragon and Crash Bandicoot were games that I always wanted to play if I had it. I can remember getting to play Spyro on occasion with my nephew and enjoying it. The remastered versions of these games definitely are worth the time (especially if you didn’t play them the first time around).
All three games look great. The first game is rather simple but fun, and the games get progressively more challenging. The look and design of each level are solid, but if you did play Spyro the Dragon into the ground on the PS1, you might be impressed/dissuaded because the games are virtually identical down to the location of items.
The controls are quite good. Spyro moves and jumps with fluent motions, and the game’s camera is one of the better controlled cameras. There are some frustrating moments when trying to do multiple things at once (like running fast and using fire), and the multiple “chase” missions and portions of the games do get irritating. Spyro games work best when you are simply allowed to jump, glide, and explore.
The game not only refreshed the graphics, but it also remastered the sound. The music and audio for the game feel fresh. Voice actor Tom Kenny (who was the voice for Spyro in Spyro 2 and Spyro 3 originally) returned and replaced Carlos Alazraqui as the voice of Spyro in the original game to streamline the games.
The Spyro Reignited Trilogy is definitely worth purchasing. The achievement/trophy aspect of the game gives old players new challenges in the game, and new players will like the slick presentation of the series. It has all the fun of a Super Mario Bros 3D game, and for a relatively low price, the game has hours of playtime. With remastered version of games being released around the various systems, the Spyro Reignited Trilogy is definitely one of the better ones.
