She-Ra and the Princesses of Power have a defector in their midst. Shadow Weaver has left the Horde, but can she be trusted? With word of Hordak’s ultimate plans, Shadow Weaver’s revelation could mean that Adora and her friends are in a race against time to find Adora’s origin and stop Hordak’s plan…but with Catra hot on their trail, preventing the end of all reality might be impossible!
She-Ra and the Princesses of Power—Season 3 is an animated action-adventure fantasy. Released on Netflix on August 2, 2019, the six episode season continued to receive positive reviews.
I was a He-Man fan but would begrudgingly watch She-Ra to get my Masters of the Universe fix. With Netflix’s She-Ra series, She-Ra finally comes into her own and instead of simply having a toy to hock sword-and-sorcery Barbies to girls, a real and develop character has been born that outshines her more famous brother.

I always geek when one of my MotU characters shows up…but Tung Lashor goes out like a chump…and just a cameo by Grizzlor!?!?!
What is great about She-Ra is the balance of humor and humanity. While primarily an action show, the characters do crack a lot of jokes and there is a lot of humor involved, but it isn’t a “funny” show. It instead treats the characters with a lot of respect, gives them emotions, and it makes them complex characters that don’t fall into the typical male-female cartoon types that dominate shows for younger viewers. The show likewise don’t make a spectacle of people’s genders and loves and instead just shows everyone on an equal footing…it is something so different from the cartoons that birthed She-Ra.
This season (like much of the show) deals with the rivalry between Adora and Catra which is getting worse instead of better. Catra’s resentment toward Adora is growing and with Adora’s turn as She-Ra it is worse. Catra’s has the idea that sword is the power and not the person wielding it…which leads to the destruction of Etheria and the reality it inhabits. It is a rather classic science fiction theme, but it is done well by utilizing the great characters the show has created.
The big drawback of She-Ra and the Princesses of Power—Season 3 is that it is only six episodes. The series has been on rapid-fire release with Season 2 being released at the end of April in 2019, but Season 2’s seven episode run felt short…this almost feels cruel to the viewers. I also feel by shorting this season, the alternate world part of the show got the shaft. I feel that there was a lot of opportunity lost in the exploration of what a perfect “Horde” or perfect “Bright Moon” would be and how restoring Etheria would cost the people living in the ideal world.
She-Ra and the Princesses of Power continues to be a strong show that needs to be given a chance by viewers. Some people write off the show as simply a stupid toy spin-off series and some people write off the show as being too cartoony. The much more harsh view of the show is that the series is progressive “propaganda”, and that is completely unfair…considering number of shows that push the classic narrative. The bottom line is that is a good show. Check it out and feel the power!
