lilo and stitch 2 stitch has a glitch hula

Get your hula on! Stitch & Lilo are back!

Something is wrong with Stitch.  His original evil programming is overwriting his good programming and he’s lashing out at everyone.  As Dr. Jumba Jookiba and Pleakley try to find a solution to Stitch’s malfunction, Lilo is trying to win a hula contest won by her mother…but Stitch’s rogue programming could bring her plans crashing down.

Directed by Michael LaBash and Tony Leondis, Lilo & Stitch 2:  Stitch Has a Glitch is a Disney animated movie.  A sequel to Lilo & Stitch from 2002, the film was released directly to DVD and was released during Lilo & Stitch:  The Series that aired from 2003 to 2006.

Not quite as inspiring as Patton

Lilo & Stitch was a fun little movie, and I liked that it stuck to traditional animation (unlike a lot of Disney movies around it).  Lilo & Stitch 2:  Stitch Has a Glitch isn’t as good looking as the original, but it is a nice follow-up.

The plot is pretty basic and feels more like an extended TV episode than a full-fledged movie.  The primarily storyline is Stitch’s glitch, and it ties back to the initial film.  The hula story feels rather secondary to the fact that Stitch is in a position he could die…when Lilo just wants to be like her mother.  The third tier story is Nani and her romance with David.  It feels like an afterthought.

The cast from the movie largely returns with the exception of Dakota Fanning replacing Daveigh Chase as Lilo (which feels a bit like miscasting on both movies since she is supposed to be Hawaiian).  Tia Carrere, Chris Sanders, Jason Scott Lee, Kevin McDonald, and David Ogden Stiers return, and it provides the needed continuity for the film since it isn’t as big as the previous movie.

lilo and stitch 2 stitch has a glitch dead ending

Well…looks like Stitch is dead…end of movie

The film still has a nice visual look.  The pastels and softer look of the first film are a little harder, but it still has a good look.  There is some Elvis music permeating the film, but it doesn’t feel as pronounced, and its own character as it did in the first movie.  The movie is definitely a step down but it isn’t cheap.

Lilo & Stitch 2:  Stitch Has a Glitch isn’t the worst Disney sequel (which often range from really poor to meh), but you can argue about the validity of the original Lilo & Stitch which isn’t loved by everyone.  If you are a fan of the first movie, you’ll enjoy checking out “the Glitch”…but it just feels like more of the same in the big picture.
