“Bizarro League will take ‘Yes’ for an answer!!!!”

Superman’s got a Bizarro problem.  When Bizarro returns to Earth and clones the League using the gun that created him, the Justice League is off to Bizarro World to deal with Bizarro and his new team.  The Justice League quickly discovers that Bizarro World has a big problem and teaming up with the Bizarro League might be the only solution!

Directed by Brandon Vietti, Lego DC Comics Super Heroes:  Justice League vs. Bizarro League is an animated short movie.  The film follows Lego Batman:  The Movie—DC Super Heroes Unite from 2013 and is the third entry in the Lego DC Comics Super Heroes series.  The film was packaged with a limited edition Bizarro Batman Lego Mini-Figure.

I don’t trust you…

I really enjoy the Lego video games especially the DC and Marvel entries.  With limitless amounts of character that easy to animated, it seems like Lego and comic books were made for each other.  The Lego Movie really had fun with the idea of blending the different Lego worlds and before the Lego Batman Movie, it made more sense for these Lego films…but they still are enjoyable shorts.

The story is actually right up my ally in that I really like Bizarro as a “villain”.  The character is really hard to write.  He isn’t always opposite and it seems like he’s only opposite when it is convenient and here in the Lego Universe, it is much easier to slide by with the questionable Bizarro logic.

The story is also good but misleading in that the Justice League barely battles the Bizarro League…in fact it is more of a team-up.  The real villain in the film is Apocalypse (with Lex Luthor as a side villain), and the Bizarros and Justice League must find a way to work together…overall it is a pretty positive message for kids and there is very little danger for the characters.

Darkseid will consume you!!!!

The animation for the film is in line with the other straight-to-video DC Lego movies.  It isn’t as slick and original as the animation for the big screen Lego films, but it is more in the vein of a traditional animated feature that just happens to be Legos.  I love Lego’s designs on all the their Lego Super Heroes (Marvel or DC) so it is always fun to see where they go with characters.

Lego DC Comics Super Heroes:  Justice League vs. Bizarro League is a short watch at less than an hour.  That is good for kids who just want to watch something quickly, but I wish that it had gone on a bit longer.  Still, the series is a fun series, and the film sets up the next Lego movie with Lex Luthor’s introduction of Martian Manhunter.  Lego DC Comics Super Heroes:  Justice League vs. Bizarro League is followed by Lego DC Comics Super Heroes:  Justice League—Attack of the Legion of Doom! in 2015.
