The Justice League is back…and out to save the world!

The Justice League continues to protect the Earth as the threats get bigger and bigger.  Be it an attack by Brainiac on Apokolips or the Joker hijacking Las Vegas, Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter, Flash, Green Lantern, and Hawkgirl are there…but a potential invasion by Gordanian and the arrival of the Thanagarians to stop it could shatter the Justice League forever!

Justice League—Season 2 aired from July 5, 2003 to May 29, 2004 on the Cartoon Network.  The twenty-six episode season marked the end of the series and a relaunch as Justice League Unlimited—Season 1 (which often is considered Justice League—Season 3).

Lobo’s come to town, bastiches!

I really enjoyed Justice League.  I grew up with Super Friends and despite having a lifelong love of Marvel Comics, I was far more familiar as a kid with DC heroes (plus, add in Superman movies and DC was everywhere).  Despite loving Super Friends, it wasn’t very accurate to the comic books.  This series helps rectify some of this while providing a solid comic book cartoon with continuing plotlines.

I found this season of Justice League slightly better than the first season.  There are many underlying story themes that carry throughout the season (like Hawkgirl and Green Lantern’s romance), but it has some great stories worked in as it leads up to “Starcrossed”.  With all series, there are weaker stories, but for the most part, this is a really solid collection.

Enjoy your time with Hawkgirl now Green Lantern…things are going to change!

The stories work because they flesh out the members of the Justice League quite well.  They are voiced by strong actors and for me much of the fun is the appearance of guest characters like Orion and Lobo.  For this reason, I do have to say I enjoyed Justice League Unlimited even more because it was filled with moments like this.

The art and style of Justice League is much above most animated series and it is backed by the strong stories.  Watching Justice League (and its following series), I wish that DC would continue with it.  It has been off the air a number of years now, but it maintains over a decade (!!!) later.  DC trounces Marvel in the animated series world and I’ve never understood it…but I hope it continues!
