Scrooge McDuck’s fortune has been threatened again! First, he finds himself on a time-travelling adventure in a race against time to beat Flintheart Glomgold to a fortune…but a caveduck named Bubba and his dinosaur Tootsie could cost Scrooge his fortune. Plus, Scrooge faces off against the Beagle Boys again…and finds that his new security guard GizmoDuck could be less helpful than Gyro Gearloose intended.
DuckTales—Season 2 actually was originally presented as two feature movie specials DuckTales: Time Is Money (originally airing November 24, 1988) and DuckTales: Super DuckTales which aired on The Magical World of Disney on December 9, 1988. The movies were then cut into five individual episodes (making up DuckTales episodes #66-75). The episodes have been released on DVD as part of DuckTales—Volume 3 which also included the end of DuckTales—Season 1.
This “season” of DuckTales had a lot of big DuckTales moments despite coming late in the series’ run. The two stories introduced Bubba Duck and Tootsie who became another of Scrooge’s adopted clan and GizmoDuck (aka Fenton Crackshell) who was played as a superhero in the DuckTales world. GizmoDuck went on to appear in episodes of Darkwing Duck along with Launchpad.
The quality of DuckTales is quite high. For a daily cartoon, DuckTales was a lot better than the standard cartoon. With known characters like Scrooge McDuck, Huey, Dewey, and Louie, the show does a good job capturing the Disney magic and not cheapening the brand by using bad animation.
DuckTales was a great series and tons of fun. I prefer the individual episodes to these longer episodes, but I’ll take any DuckTales I can get. Unfortunately, Disney has not released the last two seasons (or 25 episodes) and as of now DuckTales—Volume 4 is not planned for release (why…I don’t know).
