Erik (John White) has a problem…his last name is Stifler and he isn’t living up to his family name. With his girlfriend Tracy (Jessy Schram) holding out on him, Tracy gives Erik a “free pass” for the weekend. Erik and his friends Cooze (Jake Siegel) and Ryan (Ross Thomas) go to visit Erik’s cousin Dwight Stifler (Steve Talley) at college for the weekend of the big Naked Mile run…and this could be Erik’s big chance!
Directed by Joe Nussbaum, American Pie Presents: The Naked Mile is the fifth film in the American Pie series. Following the direct-to-DVD American Pie Presents: Band Camp in 2005, American Pie Presents: The Naked Mile was relatively low-budget and a financial success.
I wasn’t a huge fan of American Pie…the original (aka the good one). The idea of a straight-to-DVD version of American Pie is even worse. American Pie Presents: The Naked Mile lives up to this expectation.
The story is very basic. It is a bunch of guys out to score girls. The movie also has a strange subplot of the main characters battling an intermural team of little people. It is a bit odd and uncomfortable. You could argue that the movie treats the characters like equals (they are jerks) in a South Park kind of way, but these characters are old enough to not use the characters stature as the source of their jokes (though the little people generally get the best of Stifler and the crew).
The cast is quite weak. John White isn’t a very dynamic lead and Jessy Schram isn’t much of a female star. The DVD version of the Seann Michael Williams Stifler played by Steve Talley feels like the budget version. Eugene Levy shows up again as Noah Levenstein and feels really shoehorned into the movie.
The movie lends itself to nudity and easy sex jokes. The movie actually has a lot more nudity than many of the theatrical films. The movie attempts to create shock and awe. The movie has the characters accidentally take Viagra before the big run and then have a contest to prove their “fortitude”…the joke is filled with jokes like this.
American Pie Presents: The Naked Mile is a rather weak follow-up to a series that has been played out. The series is followed by a direct sequel in the next film. Erik actually goes to college and continues his sexual “adventures” (after dismissing the bland girl). American Pie Presents: The Naked Mile is followed by American Pie Presents: Beta House in 2007.
