Snout-Spout are you excited about Christmas or just happy to see me?

Prince Adam and Princess Adora have come to Eternia to celebrate their birthday.  When Orko is accidentally spirited away to Earth, he learns about Christmas from two lost Earth children named Miguel and Alisha.  When Orko is pulled back to Eternia with Miguel and Alisha, the Horde Prime realizes that Christmas could pose another threat to his attempts of conquest.  Skeletor and Hordak are sent on a kidnapping mission and only She-Ra and He-Man can stop them.

Directed by Bill Reed and Ernie Schmidt, He-Man & She-Ra:  A Christmas Special is a family holiday special.  Originally broadcast in December 1985, He-Man & She-Ra: A Christmas Special was part of the original Masters of the Universe run.  It brought together both Masters of the Universe and its sister show She-Ra: Princess of Power. It has been released on DVD.

Breaking it down! Orko and Kowl style!

The show is typical goofiness that you’d expect from Masters of the Universe if you watched the show, but even geekier in that it is a crossover with the She-Ra Princess of Power series.  This is one of the later episodes so many of the character cameos are some of the later made toys.  It is fun to see the two worlds interacting (and makes me wish that the series relaunches had been as fun).

The “Christmas” aspect of the special is so sugary sweet that it almost could kill a diabetic.  Everyone is touched by the story of Christmas, be it He-Man, She-Ra, or even Skeletor. Skeletor becomes a fan favorite of Miguel and Alisha even gets a hug.  I think that he should lose his bad guy card for his performance in this.

Skeletor, I think we’ll miss you most of all…

One of my favorite things about He-Man has to be the goofy voice performances.  All the character have the most stylized accents and most are laughable.  I know that Adam is covering that he’s really He-Man, but why would he have that almost Southern accent…that or He-Man’s deep booming voice is really cover for a wimpy Adam voice.

He-Man and She-Ra:  A Christmas Special is a campy fun ’80s throwback.  Check it out for fun.  Bow’s Christmas song might put in the Christmas spirit and remind you what Christmas is all about…but I doubt it.
